Kids & Bees | Hive to Table
Thank you so much for attending the Kids and Bees workshop as part of BGO’s annual Hive to Table event. If you missed the live event, you can find a recording here, and in Spanish and English here.
Here are a few resources for the activities from today’s class:
Where to find local honey to taste? The best place to find local honey is usually your farmer’s market, your local food co-op, a boutique selling local products, or from the beekeeper’s farm stand. Here is a handy tool from the National Honey Board to find local honey, here is another tool from Hive Tracks. Here is a tool from Local Harvest to find farmers’ markets and CSA’s, and here is one from the USDA. Happy honey hunting!
Find your official UC Davis Honey & Pollination Center’s Honey Flavor Wheel here.
Here are a few different community science projects for you and your kiddos to get involved in. Here are the bee ID cards I referenced in the video, here is the data sheet that I referenced in the video. Both the brilliant work of the Great Sunflower Project! You’ll need to sign up for a free account to access these resources.
Here are a few more bee-themed activities to do with your kids and home.
My top three favorite flowers for bees are: sunflowers, phacelia, and cosmos.
